Audiometric Testing: The Key to Organisational Resilience

Noise is one of the biggest potential workplace hazards. 98% of workers compensation claims for deafness in 2021 were caused by long-term noise exposure. Australian businesses lost a total of $29.7 billion as a result.

Conducting regular audiometry testing not only prevents long-term damage to workers and businesses, it also optimises overall manpower quality.

The Hidden Benefits of Regular Audiometric Testing

High blood pressure, stress, and noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) are some health problems that can arise from long-term noise exposure. Fortunately, businesses can reduce these risks—when they take workplace hearing tests seriously.

Strengthen Workforce Engagement

Reduced presenteeism and absenteeism from hearing issues can greatly improve employee productivity and output.

Enhance Workplace Safety

Employees with healthy hearing stay focused and make fewer errors, minimising the risk of work-related accidents.

Prioritise Legal Compliance

Regularly conducting rigorous audiometric testing ensures workplace safety standards are met and reduces employer liability.

Cut Losses From Workers Compensation

Early detection of hearing loss mitigates risk by addressing issues before they escalate into a claimable incident.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I really felt I had to say something about how much AusRehab helped me. After my accident and working with another rehab company, I was feeling lost and didn’t know what was going to happen with my life. I was in pain all the time and getting the runaround from people who were supposed to help. Then I got connected with Matt from AusRehab and everything changed. Matt is kind but brutally honest, which I really appreciate. He has a way of explaining things that actually makes sense. He listened to me and didn’t treat me like just another number. He helped me through every step — with the doctors, the paperwork, my appointments, even just being someone I could talk to when things got too much. He made me feel like I wasn’t alone in this. I wish I had been working with Matt from the start — things would’ve been so different. I was in a really dark place, but Matt made me feel like I had someone in my corner. I don’t have all the fancy words, but all I can say is he really cared. I felt like I mattered. Thank you, Matt, and thank you, AusRehab, for helping me when I needed it most.

I am very grateful for the support I received from Matt at Revamp Psychology. I felt listened to, understood and treated with genuine respect. Matt understood not only the psychological impact of my injury, but also the additional stress and uncertainty that comes with the recovery and claim process. The sessions were practical, supportive and tailored to what I was experiencing. I developed a better understanding of my symptoms and felt more confident managing them in my daily life. Having appointments by telehealth also made accessing treatment much easier. I would highly recommend Matt to anyone needing psychological support following a workplace injury.

I had an excellent experience with Aus Rehab Rehabilitation Centre, and I would especially like to thank Hans for his outstanding support throughout my recovery. Hans was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and caring. He provided helpful guidance on the medical aspects of my rehabilitation and worked closely with my doctors to develop a treatment plan that suited my condition perfectly. Thanks to his efforts and coordination, my pain was greatly reduced, and my recovery went very smoothly. He also managed all of the insurance-related matters on my behalf and kept me informed every step of the way. I am truly grateful for everything Hans has done for me. I highly recommend Aus Rehab Rehabilitation Centre and Hans to anyone looking for professional, compassionate, and effective rehabilitation services.

I've been with Ausrehab for several months now, and I'm very satisfied with their rehabilitation providers. I'd like to mention this as a general positive comment. They've been instrumental in my recovery, not only for my mental well-being but also for my physical health, helping me stay motivated and focused throughout this challenging process. The support I received from numerous departments has been invaluable. Specifically, I want to commend John, Paulo, and Ronit for their exceptional contributions. I don't know how I could have done it if it weren't for their exceptional guidance and support. I am more than satisfied with the time they have chosen to give me. Have a good day, thank you all. Frequently Asked Questions

What is audiometric testing?

Audiometric testing, also called workplace hearing tests, measures how well a person can hear different sounds. This is usually done through a pure tone audiometry test.

It helps detect hearing loss early, especially in workplaces with high noise exposure.

Why is audiometric testing important?

Regular testing helps protect hearing health and identify risk of hearing loss. This allows employers to take preventive measures before permanent hearing loss sets in. It also ensures compliance with workplace health and safety regulations.

For more information, see our blog article: Everything You Need to Know About Audiometric Testing.

How much does a workplace hearing test cost?

AusRehab offers audiometry tests at $65 per person if you order 20 or more tests, or $75 for a single test.

AusRehab has multiple clinics across NSW with qualified professionals to perform hearing tests. We can also travel on-site within the Sydney metro area.

Does AusRehab offer bulk booking for audiometric tests?

Yes we’re able to carry out hearing tests for large groups. Submit the enquiry form above and we’ll give you a callback to discuss your needs.

What happens during the test?

A trained audiometric tester will:

  • Place headphones on the candidate.
  • Play sounds at different pitches and volumes.
  • Ask the employee to indicate when they hear a sound.
  • The results are then analysed to detect any hearing changes.

How long does the test take?

The test usually takes 10–15 minutes per person.

Is audiometric testing mandatory?

Yes, under Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations, employers must provide testing if workers are regularly exposed to hazardous noise levels. See SafeWork’s website for more information.

What happens if hearing loss is detected?

If a decline in hearing is found, further testing may be required. Employers should take steps to reduce noise exposure, such as providing better hearing protection or modifying work environments

How can employers reduce workplace noise exposure?

  • Use quieter machinery
  • Install sound barriers
  • Provide high-quality hearing protection
  • Rotate workers to limit noise exposure time

How can I book audiometric testing for my workplace?

Fill out the form above, or head to our PES Portal to make an instant booking.
